What birthday party rooms do you have at your children's party venue?
There are two gorgeous and versatile party rooms at our children's venue; The first is our magical forest room, which is literally an indoor forest with trees, grass and a canopy of leaves and vines! For different themes we add different character cut outs to the room to make a suitable for a wide range of themes. Our second room is our modern white room. This room has a stage and large themed backdrops which change depending on the theme. There is an amazing silver sparkly ceiling and an entire wall of canvas artwork which also changes depending on the theme. Each of our rooms are decorated from floor to ceiling and have dress up costumes for all guests.
How many children can attend?
Our white room is our slightly smaller room and can comfortably hold a maximum of around 15 guests. The forest room is larger, and can comfortably hold up to around 20 children. For any parties over 15 guests though, you will need to book the venue for your exclusive use to ensure there is plenty of room to enjoy your party.
What happens during the birthday parties?
Your birthday party is run by an experienced party host from beginning to end. As the party starts, your host will give all the children a chance to dress up in deluxe costumes - and then the games begin! Parties often start with a simple game like musical statues, and alternate from dancing, active games to sit down games and activities like pass the parcel and bingo. Usually about 30 - 40 minutes into the party, food will be served. Then it's right back into games and activities! About 15 minutes before the end of your party, your host will organise all of your guests into a group so you can get some group birthday party photos, and then the cupcake tower will be brought in for singing happy birthday and blowing out candles. After this there is usually time for one last game before the children take off their costumes. At the end, your host will help the birthday child hand out all of the gorgeous party bags and party cup cakes to their guests, thanking them for coming.
Are birthday gifts / presents opened during the party?
Parents often decide to take gifts home to open later on so nothing gets lost and it's easier to record who gave each gift. However if you wish for your child to open gifts during the party, please let the staff know when you arrive, and your host will allocate time for this during the party.
Does someone supervise the children?
Yes, your birthday party host stays with the children throughout the entire party in the party room. Our party hosts are at least 18 years old and are specifically trained before being able to run parties. Many of our staff are studying child related degrees at university, and have a huge amount of experience with children. In addition to your party host, there are always extra party helpers to assist with the party and serving of food.
What food do the children eat?
Yummy unlimited party food is served during all of our parties - no matter what time of day it is. Food consists of oven baked chips, pizza sandwich toasties with cheese and pizza sauce, fresh seasonal fruit kebabs and fairy bread (with dairy free margarine). Children are given as much food as they like - so no-one will leave hungry. All of our food products are 100% vegetarian with no meat products, animal rennet or gelatine.
Is birthday cake included?
Yes, cake is always included in all of our venue parties at no extra charge. Our cakes are large decorated cupcake towers with delicious iced chocolate cupcakes for all guests.
Can we bring our own food or cake?
Unfortunately due to the stringent health and safety regulations we strive to adhere to, we can not allow any additional food or cake to be brought into the premises.
What if I have children attending with allergies?
If a child has allergies, they are welcome to bring a lunchbox of food along which we can serve to them during lunch. We do try to make our food items as low allergy as possible by providing fresh fruit skewers, fairy bread made with dairy free margarine and of course none of our food items contain nuts. We also provide the option of replacing your chocolate cupcakes (which include wheat, dairy and egg) with special order allergy free cupcakes. Are birthday party bags / loot bags included? What is in the party bags?
Yes our custom made party bags are included in all of our parties! Party bags are coloured to suit the party theme with gorgeous themed thank you tags. We understand most parents don't want children going home with loads of unhealthy sugar snacks, so we fill our party bags with great quality themed accessories and just a couple of individually wrapped lollies to keep the kids happy!
What prizes do you provide for games?
Our prizes are great quality items that match the theme of the party wherever possible. There are three prizes included in all of our venue parties, however you may choose to add a prizes upgrade so every child receives a prize and no-one misses out. This is a particularly good option for younger children who can sometimes struggle with understanding why they miss out. If the prizes upgrade option is chosen, we aim to give every child the same prize to avoid any arguments! To view examples of prizes, please see our party room pages.
How many birthday parties do you run at one time?
At our venue, we may be running a maximum of two parties at one time. There are two separate parent lounge areas, so you have an area specifically for your party and of course your child's party room is exclusively for their party only.
How many parents can stay?
Our parent lounge areas accommodate approximately 10-12 adults. If you are expecting up to 25 adults, you would need to book our venue for your exclusive use, otherwise there would not be enough room.
Can we hold large family parties at the venue?
As mentioned above, if you are wanting to invite up to 25 adults, and approximately 20 children, you may do this as long as you book the venue for your exclusive use. We have 24 on-site carparks with further carparking available on North East Road if needed.
Can we bring food or alcohol for the parents?
We have a sweet and savoury platter available for purchase if you are expecting adults to stay and wish to provide some snacks. We also serve tea and coffee at a discounted price which you can choose to put on a tab or have your guests order themselves. Unfortunately no additional food or drink can be brought into our venue. Please note, we are NOT a licensed premises so can not allow the consumption of alcohol under any circumstances. We thank you for your understanding.
Is your venue air conditioned?
Yes our venue has reverse cycle air conditioning.

How many Groovy Chicks staff will attend my birthday party?
Always at least two fantastic staff. One host and one party co-ordinator. This ensures your party will run super smoothly.
When is the best time to have Groovy Chicks and Pirate Ships arrive?
It is best to have the children arrive at least 15 minutes before we arrive. If you are having party food before we come, we recommend having guests arrive 30 minutes before. By giving guests plenty of time to arrive you minimise the possibility of your birthday entertainment time being wasted waiting for latecomers.
When should we give the children party food and cut the cake?
In our experience it is usually best to give children food towards the beginning of a party, before the entertainment begins. This ensures they won't be hungry and get sidetracked during games and activities. You can always save cutting the cake for the last fifteen minutes of the party so if children don't feel like eating they can take their cake or cupcake home with them.
How many children should we invite?
This is entirely up to you but it's a good idea to consider your available space, budget and party atmosphere when working out your party size. Very large parties of 30 children need much more room, are much louder and harder to control than a smaller group of say 10-15 children! From a budget perspective, a large party also works out more expensive than smaller gatherings. In our experience the best parties tend to keep their guest numbers to under 20 children.
What do we need to provide to Groovy Chicks staff?
On arrival you will just need to show our staff where you would like the party entertainment to run and give them access to a power-point in that area for setting up music and microphones. If the area is outside with limited access to power, please have an extension cord set up to save time during the party.
How much room to we need for a party?
Again this really depends on how many children you have attending - and if you have parents staying! If you are expecting a lot of parents to stay, it is often a good idea to have the parent area slightly separate to the children's area so the children don't get distracted. For the children's area, generally a lounge room, family room or play room are ideal all year round, or in nice weather a verandah, garage or garden setting can also be lovely. If you are worried about space, please push furniture back against walls or move some furniture out of the party room.
Can you run the birthday party outside?
Yes - many birthday parties are well suited to outdoors if the weather is nice. In summer and winter it is especially important though to have indoor options available if needed. It is very tough for kids to enjoy a party if they are sweltering outside in 35 degree heat!
What if I can't hold the party at my home?
If your home is not suitable to hold a birthday party you may wish to hold it at our party venue, or look at halls or parks in your area. Sometimes grandma and grandpa or a generous relative may even lend you their place for your party!
Do you do face painting?
Although in some of our parties we do a little glitter make-up we do not do face painting. Our focus is on keeping ALL of your party guests entertained and participating as much as possible. Face painting looks great but unfortunately only entertains one child at a time while everyone else is stuck lining up.
Do you provide food or balloons?
No but we may be able to recommend another great local business if you are interested.
Do you do adult parties?
Although people ask this question for many different reasons, we do in fact attend quite a lot of 'adult' celebrations! From adult birthdays, to Christenings and New Year's parties, if there are kids attending, we can come and entertain them!
What ages are Groovy Chicks and Pirate Ships birthday parties suitable for?
Our parties are available for ages 3 and up. For boys we have themes suitable up to age 8 or 9 and for girls up to around 13 years.

Do you provide delivery and set up of party hire equipment?
Yes we certainly can - however this is in addition to the package prices. We can happily arrange to have one of our party stylists deliver and pick up your equipment or we can deliver it, and set it all up for you as well. Please contact us for a quote on these options as prices vary based on location, size of party etc.
Are you children's party hire items breakable glass or ceramic?
No. All of our hire items are made of wood, fabric, melamine or metal to make them as durable and safe as possible for use around children. So if little fingers happen to drop something, there will be no broken glass or ceramics to worry about.
Can we purchase your hire settings?
Unfortunately at this stage our party hire items are available for hire only in South Australia. Please keep an eye on our online store for what products are available for purchase Australia wide.
What are the dimensions of your hire equipment?
Our children's hire tables are 120cm long x 60 cm wide x 55 cm high. Each table seats a maximum of 6 children. Tables can be arranged in any way to suit your space. Our children's chairs are 60cm high with a seat height of 32.5 cm.
How long is equipment hired for?
To make life as easy as possible for you, our kids party hire equipment includes an entire weekend hire from Friday afternoon to 12:00 pm Monday morning. How great is that?! If you require a longer hire period, please contact us for a quote.
What if I am after a theme you do not offer?
Give us a call and we will see what we can do! We are constantly developing new party hire themes so if you are after a popular theme and have plenty of time before your party we may be able to develop the theme you want.
Do you include food or provide catering with your hire equipment?
